Audubon Aquarium

Audubon Aquarium is one of the most popular tourist destinations in New Orleans. Located in the heart of the city next to the Mississippi River, the Aquarium covers an area of more than 400,000 square feet and comprises of over 10,000 marine animals from 530 species. It is an ideal place to explore the wonders of the underwater world while learning about the animals' habitat, evolution, and conservation.

Opened in 1990, the Aquarium is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and is known for its diverse exhibits such as the Great Maya Reef, Gulf of Mexico exhibit, and the Amazon Rainforest. Visitors can touch stingrays, feed sea turtles, and watch the penguin parade. In the IMAX theater, they can experience larger-than-life movies on a screen that is six stories tall.

Nearby landmarks include the Riverwalk Marketplace, a shopping mall that houses more than 75 retailers, restaurants, and attractions. The Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium showcase thousands of butterflies, insects, and arachnids from around the world. The Woldenberg Riverfront Park is a great place for a picnic or a stroll along the scenic waterfront.
