Fort William Henry, situated at Lake George's southern end of New York Province, used to be a British fort. Sir William Johnson ordered the fort's construction in 1755 during the French and Indian War. Even though the fort was destroyed in 1757, its ruins became a tourist attraction in the 19th century.
